Design has the ability to change ones thinking and habits. It can move us to one direction, while the same design has the ability to have a different effect on different people. That’s why, I strongly believe that a true love or passion for design has to recognize those indeferences. It’s sometimes a harsh world in design, where people try to please everyone. As a result there has been created certain “norms” that only differ in different areas of the world.
This kind of thinking acts only as a restriction towards design concepts itself. While there is a clear freedom loving part of the industry, obviously there is still quite some restrictions created by a mass way of thinking. All this is of course just a brilliant plan to control the environment around us. It’s because those who have money, want to make everything boring and the same.. and that is of course the way they like things to be in this world.
For us, the love for design is a kind of a rebelious statement. Making something that’s only ment to be a passion and if someone else happens to like that and recognises the curves and colors. Then that is just a sign that someone else has realised something that you have. But you can never except for the majority of people to get you in the way that you might get yourself or people with a similar way of thinking.
That’s why design needs to go full ahead, and cross the boundaries of corporate profit or masqueraded “tailor design”. Only when the majority have something interesting to say, such as that they don’t like it. Only then, one has achieved the truly passionate goal that is required in order to design development to bloom.
It’s a harsh world sometimes, and obviously because of the financial motive it’s really hard to penetrate the industry as one likes to. All part of the game, one must do what feels right and protect the weak. This is not to say that the commercial part of design is all doom and gloom. In fact, there is tremendous hope in different areas of fashion for example. Because ultimately there is no way to confine artists inside boxes and norms.. there are only ways to slow people down. But right now we are living a magical moment in time, where people are starting to stand out more and individualism is exploding in a big way.. which has nothing to do with profit.
Love design, and love yourself!
